INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team is ranked No. 8 in the second batch of NCAA South Regional rankings.
The Warhawks boast a 31-14 overall record and a 20-6 Gulf South Conference record with just one weekend left in the regular season.
Auburn Montgomery is led by first-year head coach
Scottie Wilkes and the program has multiple victories over ranked opponents. The Warhawks have knocked off No. 1 University of North Georgia, No. 21 Mississippi College, and own a series sweep over No. 13 Valdosta State University.
Freshmen
Chloe Baynes leads the Warhawks with a .433 batting average. She has 61 hits and has scored 40 runs for the Orange & Black. Infielder
Chloe Derrick leads the team in homers with 11 on the season and has driven in 38 runs.
Kat Fallen has a team-leading 47 runs batted in this season with 35 coming against GSC competition.
In the circle, AUM's
Avery Dickerson has tossed 101.2 innings and has an ERA of 2.62. She has given up 21 runs in GSC action.
Morgan Ferguson has worked 108.1 innings and has produced an ERA of 2.78. She has struck out 90 batters which is ninth-best in the conference.
The Warhawks hit the road to Huntsville, Alabama for a pivotal GSC series against No. 4 The University of Alabama in Huntsville. The two teams square off with the single game on Friday, April 28 at 5 p.m. and the doubleheader on Saturday, April 29 at noon at Charger Park.
The NCAA is scheduled to release one more group of rankings on Wednesday, May 3 before the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 8 at 9 a.m. CT.
