BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ruth Sconocchini, a member of the Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team has taken home Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week awards after her performance this past weekend at the Rollins College Volleyball Invitational and midweek matchup at Albany State University.
Sconocchini was dominant for the Warhawks as she helped guide the team to a 4-1 record during the week with 46 kills on 99 attacks. She registered a hitting percentage of .337. Defensively, she chipped in with four block assists and four digs.
The Filottrano, Italy native began her week in Albany, Georgia where she posted eight digs as the Warhawks downed the Golden Rams 3-1.
On the first day at the Rollins Invite, Sconocchini posted 16 digs against Florida Tech and Bluefield State. On the second day she tallied a season-high of 13 kills against Rollins in a 3-0 victory and nine kills in a sweep over Chadron State.
Sconocchini is currently eighth in the GSC in hitting percentage on the year at .301 and has posted 78 kills this year, which is good for sixth in the conference.
The Warhawks host the 2023 Warhawk Invitational Thursday, September 14-16 at the AUM Athletics Complex in Montgomery, Alabama.
