HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Freshman Adley Burkes anchored a solid performance by the Auburn University at Montgomery women's cross country team at the 2023 Southern Showcase, as she ran the ninth-fastest 5K time in school history as the top finisher for the Warhawks.

SCORING FIVE
- Burkes placed 149th overall out of 332 runners with her time of 19:25.60.
- Sophomore Abagail Little's 19:41.20 was good enough to cross the line as AUM's second finisher on the morning.
- A time of 19:53.00 from Nicole Luther placed her third in the Warhawks' scoring lineup.
- Seconds behind Luther was Kenlie Nelson, who raced a time of 19:56.30.
- Lucy Anthony rounded out AUM's scoring unit with a 5K time of 19:58.60.
NOTABLES
- Burkes' time of 19:25.60 marks the ninth-fastest 5K in program history.
- The team saw all five of its scoring runners race a sub-20 minute 5K time, which marks a first for the program.
- There was a 33-second spread between AUM's first finisher and its fifth finisher, which is the best of the year for the Warhawks.

"We had a good day for our women's team," said head coach Ryan Thompson. "We got a big race out of [freshman] Adley Burkes. It is also the first time we have had all five of our scoring runners under 20 minutes which is great. But I did feel like we got overwhelmed and swallowed up by the race. I want us to work on having more of a presence in big meets like this."
UP NEXT
The Warhawks return to the course on Friday, September 29th as they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to race in the Florida State Invitational. The race will be held at Apalachee Regional Park.
