Walk-Off, Four Home Runs Propel Diamond Warhawks to Doubleheader Sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Jarren Wright delivered the game-winning RBI double in game one to help the Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team notch its third walk-off win of the season, and the Warhawks clubbed three home runs in the back half of the twin bill as they swept a doubleheader from Union University.

The sweep marked the second doubleheader sweep of the campaign for the orange and black, who also previously swept a doubleheader against Mississippi College in late February.

GM 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Union scored a run in the first and four in the top of the second to take an early 5-0 lead. 
  • RH Frankland delivered an RBI single up the middle to score Jarren Wright and make it 5-1 after two.
  • Tyrese Rooks clubbed a solo home run off the top of the scoreboard to make it 5-2 in the third, and Zach Dew legged out an RBI infield single to pull AUM within two.
  • Kasey Clark added a two-out RBI single up the middle to score Jackson Ceman and make it a 5-4 ball game.
  • Dew scurried home on a wild pitch in the eighth which tied the game at 5-5.
  • Dew drew a two-out walk in the last of the ninth and scored the winning run after Wright doubled down the right field line.
GM 1 ON THE MOUND 
  • Luke Turner allowed four earned runs on seven hits, with one walk and four strikeouts. Turner shut out the Bulldogs after the second inning.
  • Ryan Slaten (2-1) picked up the win as he worked 2.0 innings of relief. He allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out three hitters.
GM 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Dew scored the first run of game two on a passed ball to get the scoring started in the second inning. 
  • Rooks answered with a grand slam to push AUM's lead to 5-0.
  • Dew added a solo home run in the third inning, Clark cleared the bases with a three-run home run in the fourth, and Wright capped the fourth with an RBI triple to put AUM up 10-0.
  • Union scored three late runs, but the Warhawks held on to clinch the series win.
GM 2 ON THE MOUND 
  • Payte Williams (2-3) earned the win with five shutout innings. He gave up four hits and one walk against five strikeouts.
  • Michal Myers tossed the final two innings and allowed four hits with a pair of strikeouts. 
NOTABLES
  • AUM's game-one win marked its third walk-off victory. The Warhawks also won their fifth conference series in six tries.
  • Rooks tallied multiple hits in both wins to make it 14 multi-hit games for the outfielder, while Dew (11), Clark (sixth), Wright (sixth), and Frankland (fifth) also put up multiple-hit games in the twin bill.
  • Rooks homered twice on the day, giving him three for the season.
  • Dew's home run in game two extended his hitting streak to 10 games. 
  • AUM turned in its sixth game with multiple home runs, and it was the sixth win of the season in which the Warhawks scored double-digit runs.
