Slaten's Complete Game Helps Warhawks Split Doubleheader at Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. -- Ryan Slaten worked seven strong innings for his first win of the season in game one of a midweek doubleheader as the Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team split its twin bill against Spring Hill College on Wednesday night at Historic Sims-Galle Field.

GM 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • An RBI single from Kasey Clark and a fielder's choice ground ball from Zach Dew gave AUM a 2-0 lead after one inning. 
  • Cooper Doughman scored on an error in the third, Jackson Ceman walked with the bases loaded in the fourth, and Clark capped the fourth with a two-run double to make it 6-0 good guys after four frames.
  • Ceman added a bases-clearing double in the fifth to make it 9-0 visitors.
  • Spring Hill added a couple of late runs, but the Warhawks shut down the win.
GM 1 ON THE MOUND 
  • Ryan Slaten (1-1) notched the win in a complete-game effort for the Warhawks. Slaten scattered a pair of runs and eight hits against four strikeouts.
  GM 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ceman put the Warhawks on the board first with a two-run single to right in the first inning. 
  • Two home runs and a double by the Tigers in the second inning helped UWA take a 5-2 lead.
  • Tunnell added a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and Wright homered in the sixth to make it 5-4, but The Tigers stranded the bases loaded in the last of the seventh to escape game two with a win.
GM 2 ON THE MOUND 
  • Camden Lovrich notched the start in game two and fired two shutout innings. He allowed two walks and one hit and added a pair of strikeouts. 
  • AJ Crocker allowed a run in one inning of relief. 
  • Micheal Myers (2.1 innings) and Carson Beach (0.2) combined to finish the game for the Warhawks.
NOTABLES
  • Slaten logged his first Warhawk win and turned in the first complete game from an AUM pitcher this season.
  • Ceman finished game one 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Ceman is hitting .600 as part of a five-game hitting streak, in which he has scored four runs, laced a double, walked three times, been hit by a pitch four times, stolen two bases, and has nine RBIs.
  • AUM drew 13 walks (seven in game one and six in game two) between both games of the doubleheader, which marked the third and fourth-highest single-game walk totals of the season. 
  • Dew drove home three runs on the afternoon and ranks first on the team with 17 runs batted in.
MANAGER'S CORNER
  • "Simply put, we are not getting the job done," said head coach Franklin Bush. "We are not consistently playing to our standard. We have to prepare at a higher level. We will make those adjustments starting tomorrow."
UP NEXT
  • The Warhawks travel to Rome, Ga. to take on Shorter University in a three-game Gulf South Conference weekend. The two teams open the series with a single game on Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m. CT.
