27th-Ranked Warhawks Fall to West Florida in Series Opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team stormed out of the gate with a five-run first inning, but the University of West Florida used 12 unanswered runs to grab a 15-7 in the series opener on Friday night at Q.V. Lowe Field.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • After Tyrese Rooks singled and Kasey Clark doubled, Cooper Doughman smacked an RBI single into center to give AUM a 2-0 lead.
  • Ashton Thomas added an RBI groundout to make it 3-0, and Jackson Ceman delivered a two-RBI single with two outs to push the lead to 5-0 after one inning.
  • West Florida immediately answered with a grand slam and a two-run triple in the top of the second to take the lead back, 6-5. 
  • The Argonauts plated multiple runs in three more innings, with two in the third, two in the fifth, and three in the ninth.
  • Zach Dew drove in a ninth-inning run, and RH Frankland added an RBI single in the last of the ninth.
ON THE MOUND 
  • Luke Turner worked a pair of innings in his start. He allowed four hits, walked six, and struck out a batter.
  • Ryan Slaten logged 4.2 innings of relief and scattered nine hits and one walk with one strikeout.
  • Trey Bacon allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out three.
  • Carson Beach, in his first GSC action of the year, allowed a pair of hits and registered a strikeout.
NOTABLES
  • Kasey Clark, RH Frankland, and Jackson Ceman all extended their team-leading on-base streaks to 16 games. 
  • With his first-inning double, Clark also made it nine consecutive games with a hit.
  • Doughman and Ceman each added their eighth games of the season with multiple RBIs.
  • Frankland logged his 10th multi-hit game of the campaign.
UP NEXT
  • The Warhawks and Argos clash in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. at Q.V. Lowe Field to closeout the series. AUM will celebrate Senior Day, with the festivities beginning around noon.
