MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The 21st-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team posted a two-out RBI single to take the first lead in the game, but the University of Montevallo clubbed four home runs on the night to take the series opener on Friday night at Bob Risener Stadium.
The Falcons used a five-spot in the bottom of the first inning to build an advantage they never gave up. Montevallo scored eight of its nine runs on the evening courtesy of home runs.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Cooper Doughman collected a two-out RBI single in the first to put AUM up 1-0.
- Montevallo exploded for five runs on three hits, two walks, and a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-1 lead.
- Solo home runs in the third, sixth, and seventh innings expanded the lead to 8-1 for the Falcons.
- RH Frankland collected a two-out base hit to right field to plate Zach Dew in the eighth.
- The Falcons added a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it 9-2.
- AUM loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the ninth, but a ground ball double play and a pop-out ended the threat.
ON THE MOUND
- Ryan Slaten (3-3) suffered the loss. He allowed four hits, walked three hitters, and struck out a pair in 3.2 innings.
- Luke Turner tossed 3.1 innings of relief for AUM. He gave up three hits, walked a pair, and struck out three.
- Trey Bacon walked three and struck out one in 1.0 inning of relief.
NOTABLES
- The Falcons scored all but one of their runs via the long ball to begin the series.
- Kasey Clark and RH Frankland extended their team-best reached base streaks to 20 consecutive games. Clark was hit by a pitch in the first inning, and Frankland drew a sixth-inning walk.
- Brendan York (12) and Doughman (12) each added another game with multiple hits for the Warhawks.
- AUM fell to 5-7 overall in series openers this season.
