Warhawks Knock Off Lenoir-Rhyne to Split Midweek Doubleheader

HICKORY, N.C. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team got a five-RBI effort from RH Frankland, including a three-run home run and a two-run double, as the Warhawks got back in the win column to split a midweek doubleheader against Lenoir-Rhyne University.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • AUM jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Tyrese Rooks and Kasey Clark scored on wild pitches. 
  • RH Frankland put an exclamation point on the first inning with a three-run home run to left field and make it 5-0 visitors.
  • Jarren Wright added an RBI groundout in the second, and Frankland smacked a two-run double off the base of the left field wall to make it 8-0 in AUM's favor.
  • A run in the second inning, and two runs each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth allowed the Bears to pull within a run, 8-7.
  • The Warhawks scored three more runs in the top of the eighth inning on a Zach Dew RBI groundout and a pair of wild pitches, as AUM built an 11-7 advantage. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne added a solo home run in the ninth, but the Warhawks fell short.
ON THE MOUND 
  • Ryan Slaten allowed three runs on four hits with one strikeout in four innings of work.
  • Brett Pitts worked two innings and allowed three earned runs with two strikeouts.
  • Clay Slagle fired a scoreless seventh inning, and Payte Williams logged a scoreless eighth frame.
  • Grant Hickman pitched the ninth frame and added a strikeout to record the save.
NOTABLES
  • Frankland posted his eighth game with multiple hits and his sixth contest with multiple RBIs.
  • Rooks extended his hitting streak to 12 games. 
  • Dew added his 14th game with two or more hits. Dew has multiple hits in eight of his last 11 games.
  • Hickman picked up his third save of the campaign.
MANAGER'S CORNER
  • "We showed maturity to come out and win more pitches today after learning from yesterday," said head coach Franklin Bush. "We set the tone in the first two innings and didn't waiver. We now get some downtime with an off weekend to recover at a high level and prepare for next week. We will use this time to get better and continue to attack or standard with the mission to play our best baseball down the stretch."

  • The Warhawks resume action on Tuesday, April 9 as they visit Americus, Ga. to take on Georgia Southwestern State University at 5 p.m. CT.
