LAKELAND, Fla. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has announced the fifth South Region Player of the Week as Auburn Montgomery's
Riley Orr and the NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week as Tampa's CJ Williams.
Orr drove in 13 runs, as AUM went 3-1, including a series sweep over Lee. In 17 at-bats, the junior outfielder notched a .588 batting average (10-for-17), slugged 1.176, had a .632 on-base percentage, and scored six times. He began the week with a four-RBI performance against Shorter while going 3-for-5 at the plate. In the series against Lee, Orr was a combined 7-for-12 (.583) in the batter's box with nine RBI. His standout performance was a 5-for-6 showing with seven RBI and two runs scored in game two, in AUM's 11-10 win.
Williams threw seven innings of scoreless baseball to earn the win against No. 24 Davenport. The Deerfield Beach, Florida righty allowed four hits and a walk while striking out 10 hitters. Williams hurled 97 pitches to 27 batters, holding opposing hitters to a .154 batting average in Tampa's 1-0 victory.
Orr and Williams move on to the NCBWA National Player of the Week ballot to be announced on Thursday, March 6.
