Warhawk of the Week April 21: Melissa Yakup Pour

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Senior Melissa Yakup Pour of the Auburn University at Montgomery tennis team has been named Warhawk of the Week, as announced by the AUM Athletics Department, Tuesday afternoon.  

Yakup Pour's Week 
Melissa Yakup Pour delivered a standout performance on Senior Day, helping lead the Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team to a dominant 6-1 victory over Montevallo this past Friday at the AUM Tennis Complex. The senior was honored prior to the match alongside teammate Sofia Neri before turning in a winning performance at the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles. 

Yakup Pour is currently ranked No. 12 in the nation in singles and No. 25 in doubles alongside Nagisa Yonezawa

Playing at No. 1 singles, Yakup Pour battled Montevallo's Klara Podskubkova. After dropping the opening set, Yakup Pour responded, taking the second set 7-5 before closing out the match 6-3 in the third to secure a key point for the Warhawks. 

She also teamed up with Nagisa Yonezawa at No. 1 doubles, where the pair earned a 6-4 victory over Podskubkova and Claire Jaramba to help AUM secure the doubles point and set the tone for the match. 

Season Shapshot 
Melissa Yakup Pour has anchored the Warhawks at the No. 1 position throughout the 2026 season, consistently facing the nation's top competition while producing key wins in both singles and doubles. She holds wins over nationally ranked opponents including No. 5 Emily Buchanan (Mississippi College), and No. 24 Rima Yoshida (Lee), while also pushing No. 7 Carlota Verdu (West Florida) to a tight straight-set battle. 

In doubles, Yakup Pour has been a consistent force alongside Nagisa Yonezawa, highlighted by victories over No. 10 Columbus State, No. 3 West Alabama, No. 17 Valdosta State, and No. 29 Lee, while competing against the nation's No. 3-ranked pair from West Florida. The duo has climbed as high as No. 21 nationally and remained ranked inside the ITA top 50 for six consecutive weeks. 

Individually, Yakup Pour has been ranked as high as No. 9 nationally in singles and has held a top-15 ITA ranking throughout the season, spending seven consecutive weeks in the national rankings while consistently competing at the top of the lineup against elite opponents. 

Yakup Pour continues to be a steady leader at the top of the lineup for the Warhawks, contributing in both singles and doubles as AUM closed out the regular season with momentum heading into postseason play.

Up Next 
Yakup Pour and the rest of the Warhawks are set to compete in the 2026 Gulf South Conference Championship next week, beginning with a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday. The women earned the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seed West Alabama on April 23 at 5 p.m. CT in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
