Curtis and Cunningham Named NAIA Scholar-Athletes

MOBILE, Ala. ----- Seniors Jade Curtis and Chanel Cunningham were each named NAIA Women's Tennis Scholar-Athletes recently, when the national office announced the 101 student-athletes to earn the distinction.



In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.

Curtis, a graduate of AUM with a degree in communications, finished the 2014 season with a 21-3 singles record, playing entirely at the No. 1 position. She added a 21-5 mark in doubles play, including a perfect 9-0 mark when teaming with Bright Phakamad. A two-time Scholar-Athlete, the native of Saltash, England, finished with a 3.76 cumulative grade point average.

A native of Coffs Harbour, Australia, Cunningham sports a 3.72 grade point average, while studying exercise science. Cunningham was 18-4 on the year, with all 22 matches being played at the third position. She also posted an 18-7 record in doubles matches.

The AUM women's tennis team finished 2014 with a 19-8 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship.
