HOW IT HAPPENED
• After each side stranded a runner in the first inning, West Alabama struck for a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead.Â
• The lead would last for just an inning as the Warhawks plated five runners in the bottom of the third. Chandler walked to lead off the inning and Tedford would follow with a single. With runners on the corners,
John-Mark Cosby chopped one to the mound, scoring Chandler. Following a Johnson walk, still with no outs, Tedford scored on a wild pitch. After a groundout and a Langley hit by pitch, Flynn singled to give the Warhawks their first lead of the contest. Davenport followed with an RBI fielder's choice and Davis doubled home another to give AUM a 5-2 lead after three.
• Stubbs singled to lead off the top of the fifth for the Tigers. After a pair of wild pitches following a strikeout, Delgado walked. A pair of RBI singles from Latham and Stafford brought the Tigers within one through four and a half.
• After Langley led off the next half with his team-leading fourth triple of the season, Flynn singled him in to double the lead. A single by Davenport followed by a sacrifice bunt from Davis put two runners in scoring position as the Warhawks looked to increase their lead. Without missing a beat, Chandler singled up the middle, scoring both runners to give the Warhawks an 8-4 lead. He would advance to third via a throwing error skipping into the Tiger dugout. Tedford laid down a textbook squeeze bunt to increase the lead to five.
• Each side's relief core would shut down each respective offense for the rest of the contest, with Auburn Montgomery coming out on top, 9-4.
