Women’s Basketball Opens up GSC Play with Lee and UAH at Home

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team will begin the Gulf South Conference portion of their 2018-19 slate by hosting Lee University on Thursday, Nov. 29 and Alabama Huntsville on Saturday, Dec. 1.

About the Warhawks 
AUM (0-5) will kickoff GSC play at week's end, coming off of a 74-47 loss to the number-16 ranked Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia on Sunday, Nov. 25 in their most recent contest. Freshman Jordan Brewster led the way offensively with 16 points, while Makaylla Bullard added a season-high 10 points and Aaliyah Milord pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in the setback.
 
Through five games, Brewster paces the AUM offense with a 15.4 point per game scoring average, while having notched double figures in the scoring column in every game this season. The freshman guard unofficially leads the Gulf South Conference with 20 three-pointers made,while also leading the conference with an average of four threes made per contest. 
 
Senior forward Evelina Avleeva leads the Warhawks in rebounding, with an average of 8.8 per game that also ranks her among the top 10 performers in the GSC. Avleeva also leads the team in assists (12), steals (11) and blocks (6), while ranking second on the team in total scoring (40). 
 
The Warhawks have accounted for a GSC-high 28 blocked shots on the season, with an average of 5.6 per game. Avleeva and Milord both lead AUM with 6 blocks on the year, while Victoria Morales has posted five, and Kendra Boone and Bailee Wolfe both have tallied four blocks on the season. 
 
The Warhawks trail Lee University 19-3 in their all-time series history, and hold a 7-1 advantage over Alabama Huntsville. 
 
The first 250 students in attendance at Thursday's game against Lee will receive a free t-shirt as part of AUM's "Blackout Game" promotion, while Saturday's game against UAH will serve as "Military Appreciation Day," with all military personal receiving free admission with proof of their military I.D.
 
About the Lady Flames
Lee (4-1) checked in at number five in the most recent D2SIDA South Regional rankings compiled on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The Flames knocked off Clark Atlanta 66-53 in Atlanta, Ga. their last time out on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
 
Through five games played, Lee ranks third in the GSC with a mark of 74 points per game. Three Lady Flames are currently averaging in double figures, with Haley Schubert leading their attack with 13.2 points per game and a team-best 48 percent field-goal percentage.

The Lady Flames boast a GSC best 50.2 points allowed per game, while having held three of their five opponents to 50 points scored or fewer this year.  
 
About the Chargers
Alabama Huntsville (1-3) heads into thie opening slate of GSC action having dropped their last two contests. The Chargers fell at Barry 86-75 on Friday, Nov. 23 and 72-68 at Nova Southeastern in their most recent weekend of action. 
 
UAH is currently averaging 65 points per game, while allowing opponents to score 71. 
 
Aryn Sanders and Katie Speegle post the top two marks for points and rebounds per game for the Chargers, with Sanders averaging 19 points and 8.7 rebounds, and Speegle averaging 13.8 points and 9.3 boards per contest. Sanders ranks for second in the conference in points per game, while Speegle ranks for third in the conference in rebounds per game. 
 
Prior to their matchup with AUM on Saturday, Dec. 1, Alabama Huntsville will host West Georgia on Thursday, Nov. 29.
