Tennis Heads To West Alabama On Friday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's and women's tennis teams will head to Livingston, Ala., on Friday to take on Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama in a dual match set to begin at 2 p.m. on the campus of the Tigers.
 
ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
The AUM men's team is ranked No. 22 nationally in the latest Oracle ITA Division II Men's Collegiate Rankings released yesterday, and are 2-1 on the season. The Warhawks dropped two spots from the previous rankings after falling to NCAA Division I member Jackson State on Monday.
 
The women's team is also 2-1 on the season, with both squads holding a 2-0 record against GSC opponents.
 
The AUM men are 12-6 in singles matches this year, with Francisco Jimenez and Eban Straker-Meads holding perfect 3-0 records on the season. The Warhawks are also 5-4 in doubles play, with Straker-Meads and teammate Santiago Veglia 3-0 over three matches this season.
 
On the women's side the Warhawks are 14-4 in singles play and 7-2 in doubles. Alba De la Torre, Julia Enderink and Alejandra Gil are all 3-0 this year while the team of Gil and Sofia Navarro are undefeated over three matches.
 
ABOUT THE TIGERS
On the men's side UWA is 4-2 this season with a 1-1 mark in league play. The Tigers are coming off of a 9-0 victory over GSC opponent Alabama Huntsville this past Tuesday, blanking the Chargers at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
Julius Kaverinen remains perfect on the season with an overall record at 6-0, playing the No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Kaverinen and doubles partner Linus Holthey are 5-1 at No. 1 doubles for the Tigers.
 
The UWA women are 2-2 on the year with a 1-1 record in the GSC. The Tigers are coming off of a 7-2 setback against West Florida on Monday, as UWA won a pair of doubles matches while dropping all the singles matches against the Argonauts.
 
Katia De La Garza, Julie Gonzalez-Rodriguez, and Imperia Martinez Mora are all 2-2 this season, with Gonzalez-Rodriguez and doubles partner Evelyn Moreno holding a 3-0 record as a team.
 
UP NEXT
Both squads will play Augusta University in a dual match on Monday. The match is set to begin at noon on the campus Jaguars.
