MONTGOMERY, Ala – Auburn University at Montgomery's women's tennis team will return home for the first time since March 6 when they play host to both Southern Arkansas and Gulf South Conference opponent Alabama Huntsville.
About the Warhawks
The Warhawks (3-8) are coming off a four-match road trip through San Antonio and will look to rebound with a pair of home matches. AUM has a winning record when playing at the AUM Tennis Complex, registering a record of 3-2.
Tonja Foessmeier has led the way for AUM in 2019, netting a singles record of 6-3. The sophomore has seen time in the first, second and third positions for AUM, including an undefeated record of 4-0 in the three spot.
Sofia Navarro has also seen success for AUM this season, netting four victories so far, including three wins in the third position for head coach
Yair Banuelos.
The premier doubles pairing for the Orange & Black this season has been
Alba De la Torre and Petri Svenja. Together the duo has registered a record of 5-3, including a 5-0 mark in the third doubles position.
About the Muleriders
Southern Arkansas (14-3) head into their week winners of three-straight and will hold an undefeated road record of 1-0. The only three losses of the Muleriders were to Washburn, Tyler Junior College and #11 The University of Central Oklahoma.
Southern Arkansas will have been winners of 14 of their first 17 matches and are yet to lose any match that has not occurred at a neutral site. The Muleriders have a 7-0 home record, a 1-0 conference record and a 1-0 record on the road.
The match with Southern Arkansas is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on aumathletics.com. The match will be part of a dual match with the school's men's team.
About the Chargers
Alabama Huntsville (5-6) will play two matches before their meeting with the Warhawks at the AUM Tennis Complex, including a match with the Southern Arkansas Muleriders.
The Chargers have not fared well in GSC play this season, netting a record of 1-3 with their only win coming against Delta State, a 6-1 victory back on March 6. In their most recent match, the Chargers fell to Valdosta State 5-2.
Leading the way for the Chargers in singles play has been Karolin Kirchtag. She currently holds a 6-4 record and has won three-straight matches. As a team, the Chargers have a 17-14 record in doubles play and are 7-3 in the third doubles position.
The match with the Chargers is scheduled for Saturday, March 23 at noon. The meeting with Alabama Huntsville will be the Warhawks first GSC match since facing West Georgia on February 27.
