Warhawks Split Midweek Doubleheader With GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team split a doubleheader with non-conference foe Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday afternoon, falling 8-7 in game one before taking game two 10-0 in five innings at Lady Canes Field on the campus of GSW.
 
NOTES
• AUM moves to 27-6 on the season with the split.
• GSW moves to 16-12 overall.
• The Orange & Black improve to 2-1 against the Hurricanes this season, having earned a 6-1 victory in Montgomery on Feb. 8.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior outfielder Parker Pinholster went 3-for-6 at the plate with four runs batted in, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
• Sophomore utility player Michaelyn Foster was 3-for-7 with four RBI on three doubles along with a run scored and two stolen bases.
• Sophomore pitcher Cydney Sizemore tossed a three-hit shutout in game two.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
• AUM took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning, with Savanna Holmes providing a single to drive in Abby Krueger and advance Pinholster to third. Holmes and Pinholster would pull off a double steal to get Pinholster home and Holmes to second. Holmes then scored on an error to give AUM a 3-0 advantage.
• GSW responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, with Elizabeth Willis hitting a two-RBI double to pull the home team to within a run.
• Pinholster put the Warhawks up 4-2 with single to left in the top of the third, plating Krueger once again.
Michaelyn Foster put the visitors up 6-2 in the top of the fourth, smashing a double to center that drove in a pair of runs to give AUM a four-run advantage.
• The Hurricanes would answer with a run in the bottom of the fourth, with Mackenzy McFarland hitting a solo home run to left to pull to within 6-3.
• GSW would tie the game with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the fifth, when Sarah Beth King bashed a three-run homer to center to even the score at 6-6.
• The home squad would take an 8-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a bases loaded walk and a passed ball to go up by a pair.
• Krueger would hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to a run, plating Olivia Aycock to pull to within 8-7 of the Hurricanes, but AUM could not get another run across to fall to 26-6 on the season.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME ONE
• The Warhawks scored seven runs on eight hits with one error.
• The Hurricanes scored eight runs on eight hits with three errors.
• Holmes (2-2) was credited with the loss in relief allowing two runs on one hit in 1.0 innings of work, recording three walks and three strikeouts.
• Shannon Gibson improved to 5-0 on the season allowing seven runs (three earned) on eight hits with a walk and a pair of K's.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
• The Warhawks exploded four nine runs in the top of the second, highlighted by a Kendall Tucker grand slam with one out to give AUM a 4-0 lead. Jaycie Walker then hit a solo homer to put the visitors up 5-0 a batter later. With Aycock at second Foster doubled to left to put AUM up 6-0. After a Morgan Duschell double Pinholster hit a three-run shot to left to increase the Warhawk advantage to 9-0.
• Foster hit her second double of the contest in the top of the fourth with Aycock on second to give the Orange & Black a 10-0 lead.
• The Hurricanes would only manage two more baserunners the rest of the way, as the Warhawks avenged the game one loss to improve to 27-6 on the year.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME TWO
• The Warhawks scored 10 runs on 10 hits with one error.
• GSW was held scoreless on three hits with one error.
• Sizemore improved to 3-0 on the season after tossing 4.0 shutout innings, giving up three hits with one walk and one strikeout.
• Jennifer Jernigan fell to 5-7 this year, allowing six runs (zero earned) on four hits in 1.2 innings.
