ROME, Ga. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team completed a series sweep of Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University on Saturday afternoon, earning a 4-2 victory in game one of the doubleheader before tallying six runs in the seventh inning of game two to come from behind for a 6-3 win in game two.
NOTES
- AUM improves to 34-9 on the season with a 14-7 mark in the GSC.
- Shorter falls to 15-24 overall and 8-15 in league play.
- AUM is now 12-4 lifetime against the Hawks, having won all six games the two have played as members of the GSC.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Sophomore
Michaelyn Foster went 2-for-6 offensively with two runs batted in and a run scored. Foster also picked up her third save of the season in game one, shutting out the Hawks to secure the win.
- Junior
Chanel Newcomer earned her eighth win of the season in a relief appearance, shutting out Shorter over 6.2 innings. Newcomer allowed only three hits and one walk to improve to 8-2 on the season.
- Freshman
Olivia Aycock was 3-for-8 from the leadoff spot on the day, with a RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Senior pitcher
Natalie Johnsey improved to 4-1 on the season with a victory in game one. Johnsey allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
- AUM took the early lead in the top of the second when
Gracie Harris scored on an infield error by the Hawks.
- The Warhawks plated two more runs in the top of the third. With
Jasmine Thompson at third base Foster laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Thompson and push the Warhawks' lead to 2-0.
Parker Pinholster was then hit by a pitch, then stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and finally scored on a wild pitch.

Hannah Dailey led off the top of the fourth with a solo home run to push AUM's advantage to 4-0.
- Shorter was able to scratch off a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, beginning with a Danni Lukas sacrifice fly to left to plate one run followed by Taylor Martin who reached home on an error by the Warhawks.
- The Hawks were able to get a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the seventh, but could not complete the comeback to fall by the final of 4-2.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME ONE
- The Warhawks scored four runs on five hits while committing three errors.
- Shorter scored two runs on four hits with two errors.
- Julie Sanderlin (1-6) was credited with the loss for the Hawks after allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits in 3.0 innings of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
- After the Warhawks went 3-up-3-down in the top of the first, the home team scored three runs in the bottom of the frame highlighted by an Alexis Sewell two-RBI single to centerfield to put the home team up 3-0 after one.
- AUM was able to get runners in scoring position in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, but could not get a run home over that span.
- In the top of the seventh, the Warhawks would finally get their offense on track.
Brooke Perrigin led the inning off with a single to left and then was pinch-run for by Thompson. After Dailey was hit by a pitch Aycock singled to left to load the bases.
Morgan Duschell then reach base on an error to score Thompson from third and cut the deficit to 3-1.
- While still in the top of the seventh Foster hit a base knock with the bases still loaded to score Dailey and cut the Shorter advantage to 3-2.
Parker Pinholster then hit a two-RBI single to plate Aycock and Duschell, giving the Warhawks a 4-3 lead on the play. With runners at second and third
Caroline Burns grounded out to second which allowed Foster to score from third.
Abby Krueger then hit a single to left to plate Pinholster, giving the visitors a 6-3 lead.
- Shorter was able to get a pair of runners in the bottom of the frame, but Newcomer would be able to close out the game on a pop up to short to secure the series sweep.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME TWO
- The Warhawks scored six runs on nine hits with no errors.
- Shorter scored three runs on five hits while committing three errors.
- Payton Lippert fell to 11-10 on the season after allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
