BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Soccer team was tabbed second in the Gulf South Conference Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced Tuesday. In addition,
Jamie Ward,
Sean Keane and Ben Hoffmann were named to the Preseason All-GSC Team.
""Happy for Benni, Sean and Jamie to get some recognition," said head coach
Matthew Thorne. "However we haven't earned anything yet in the GSC this season, we all have to prove ourselves everyday."
The Warhawks are coming off a historic 2024 campaign that featured the first GSC Tournament title in program history and an appearance in the NCAA South Regional.
AUM earned 106 points and two first-place votes in the coaches' poll. West Florida was selected first, respectively.
Jamie Ward,
Sean Keane and Ben Hoffman were named to the Preseason All-GSC list. While,
Harrington Arnette,
Noah Fernandes and
Tim Ottele were named the Newcomer Watchlist.
Hoffmann, a First Team All-GSC selection in 2024, was one of the top players in the league, scoring nine goals and five game-winning goals. The rookie from Berlin, Germany was also the GSC freshman leader in goals and game winners in 2024.
Keane also returns for his senior season at AUM, the Cork, Ireland native was a GSC All-Tournament team performer last season.
Ward started nine games for the Warhawks in 2024 and scored three goals as a defender.
The Warhawks will open the season in Florida and face Saint Leo on Sept. 4, and Tampa on Sept. 6. View the full schedule
