MONTGOMERY. Ala. – Auburn University at Montgomery has named
John Robertson the women's soccer head coach, as announced by Director of Athletics
Erik Maas on Tuesday afternoon.
Robertson arrives in Montgomery with experience at many levels of collegiate soccer, most recently serving as an assistant coach with the University of Texas women's soccer program for the past two seasons, where he helped guide the Longhorns through their inaugural year in the Southeastern Conference. During the 2024 season, Texas captured the SEC Championship, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and earned a national ranking as high as fifth, finishing the year ranked 17th.
"We are excited to welcome John to AUM as the next head coach of our women's soccer program," Maas said. "Coach Robertson has competed and coached at the highest levels of collegiate soccer and brings a proven track record of developing elite talent and building successful programs. His experience in championship environments and his commitment to the development of student-athletes make him an outstanding fit for AUM."
"I would like to thank
Erik Maas, Dr. Carl Stockton and the entire AUM search committee for placing their trust in me," said Robertson.
While at Texas, Robertson played a key role in developing elite talent, coaching 10 graduating seniors who signed professional contracts, along with 13 youth and senior national team players representing the United States, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. He also coached five SEC All-Conference selections, two SEC Freshman of the Year award winners, and Top Drawer National Player of the Year and All-American Lexi Missimo, a Mac Herman Trophy semifinalist. In addition, Robertson helped secure a Top-20 nationally ranked recruiting class.
Prior to his time in Austin, Robertson spent two seasons at Cincinnati, helping lead the Bearcats into the Big 12 Conference and guiding the program to a conference tournament quarterfinal appearance in 2023. He also served as an assistant coach at UAB, where the Blazers earned Conference USA Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2022, posted a program-record 10-game unbeaten streak, and finished as Conference USA regular season runners-up.
Robertson began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Montevallo, where he helped lead the Falcons to the 2019 Gulf South Conference Championship, a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and both conference and regional coaching staff of the year honors.
"AUM has a tradition of hard work, honesty, education, and making a difference in the local community by providing opportunities for people to better themselves and change the course of their lives," Robertson said. "It's my goal to bring those values to life, help prepare strong young women for the real world and get this soccer program back to winning ways."
In addition to his collegiate experience, Robertson has served in multiple ODP and club coaching roles, including as a Region III ODP goalkeeping staff coach, and holds extensive coaching credentials, including a UEFA B License, USSF National C License, and multiple goalkeeping certifications.
Robertson earned a Master of Science with distinction in Journalism from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, after completing his undergraduate degree in English Literature at Maryville College, where he was a Presidential Soccer Scholar.
"This is an exciting challenge," Robertson said. "I can't wait to get started. Go Warhawks."
