Two Homers Not Enough as Warhawks Fall to UAH, 8-6

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks baseball team (8-19, GSC: 4-12) fell to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers (10-15, GSC: 7-9) 8-6 on Friday night, despite a pair of Warhawk home runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warhawks were the first on the board after Brice Ainsworth led off the bottom of the first inning with a single up the middle and later scored on a Cannon Miller fielder's choice.

Chance Sweeny provided the big swing in the second inning, powering a two-run homer over the left-center field wall to give AUM a 3-0 lead.

The Chargers responded in the top of the third, scoring three runs on two hits, aided by an AUM error, to even the score.

Christopher McNeill answered right back in the bottom half of the inning, leading off with a solo home run to left field to put the Warhawks back in front.

UAH surged ahead in the fourth inning, plating three runs to take a 6-4 lead.

After a scoreless fifth inning, both teams traded runs in the sixth to make it 7-5 in favor of the Chargers.

The seventh inning followed a similar pattern, with McNeill scoring on a Tucker Burns double to cut the deficit to 8-6.

Neither side was able to push across a run in the final two innings, as UAH secured the 8-6 win in the series opener.
