Kraus Named Defensive Player of the Year, Baron, Elkins, Hauk, and Spickenbaum Earn All-GSC Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior goalkeeper Alexander Kraus of the Auburn Montgomery Men's Soccer Team has been named the Gulf South Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-GSC First Team while Arnaud Baron, Andrew Elkins, Jamos Hauk, and Phillip Spickenbaum were all named to the All-GSC Second Team. It was announced by the conference office on Saturday (Nov. 6).

The Warhawks five total honorees served as the most all-conference selections by any GSC school.

Kraus (Duisberg, Germany) becomes the program's first player to be named GSC Defensive Player of the Year, splitting it with Aurele Chemin of Mississippi College, and the second All-GSC First Team Selection for the program. The senior keeper led all GSC goalies with a 0.60 goals against average in 2021, a mark which also ranks fifth in the nation. Kraus additionally recorded six clean sheets and led the league with an 83 percent save percentage.

Second-Team selections Elkins (Bay St. Louis, Miss.) and Hauk (Aglasterhausen, Germany) both served as the driving forces at center back behind an AUM backline that pitched six clean sheets and held opponents to just 0.93 goals per contest in 2021. Both Elkins and Hauk also registered three goals scored each in 2021.

Second-Team selections Baron (Nantes, France) and Spickenbaum (Niederkrüchten, Germany) proved to be pivotal pieces in the AUM midfield all season long. Baron, who also earned All-GSC Second-Team honors in 2019, netted two goals and dished out one assist while Spickenbaum tallied three goals and a pair of assists.

The men's soccer team will kick off postseason play in round one of the GSC Championship on Sunday, Nov. 7 when they host West Alabama from the AUM Soccer Complex at 1:00 p.m.
