AUSTIN, Texas – Senior defender
Andrew Elkins of the Auburn Montgomery Men's Soccer Team has been named to the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An All-GSC Second Team honoree and GSC Preseason All-Conference selection in 2021, Elkins led an AUM defense this past season that recorded 10 shutouts and held opponents to just 0.85 goals per contest. The senior center back also accounted for three goals scored, including the game-winner against Shorter University on Oct. 22.
A Master of Business Administration graduate student, Elkins boasts a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the classroom. The Bay St. Louis, Miss. native notched GSC All-Academic Team honors in the spring of 2021 and in June of 2021 was named to the GSC's Top 10 list, an accolade that recognizes the conference's top student-athletes from the previous academic year.
The selection marks for the first CoSIDA Academic All-American from the men's soccer team since making the jump to full-time division II membership in 2019. Elkins served as one of only two representatives from the Gulf South Conference on any of the three Academic All-America teams in D-II and the lone first-team selection from the conference.
The 2021-22 Academic All‐America® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
