Elkins Earns Second-Straight GSC Top Ten Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second-consecutive year, Andrew Elkins of the Auburn Montgomery Men's Soccer Team has been named a recipient of the Gulf South Conference's "Top Ten" Award.

The Top Ten Award recognize the top female and top male student-athletes for their athletic, academic, and extracurricular achievement during the 2021-22 academic year. The top male and top female from each group of honorees will be awarded the Commissioner's Trophy, which is the conference's most elite award.

An All-GSC Second Team honoree and GSC Preseason All-Conference selection in 2021, Elkins led an AUM defense in 2021 that recorded 10 shutouts and held opponents to just 0.85 goals per contests. The senior center back also accounted for three goals scored.

Elkins' leadership on the backline proved to be pivotal in guiding the Warhawks to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Postseason Tournament this past season. Under his leadership, the Orange and Black recorded clean sheets in four consecutive postseason matches on their way to the national quarterfinals.

In the classroom, he maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout his time in undergraduate studies, earning his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in the Spring of 2021. He's additionally boasted a perfect 4.0 GPA while pursuing his Masters of Business Administration.

Elkins has logged over 10 hours of community service this academic year, highlighted by coaching soccer at the local YMCA in Montgomery and helping AUM students get moved into their dorms on Fall 2021 Move-In Day. He regularly donates lightly-used soccer equipment and apparel to children in Guatemala through the help of his aunt who is from there.

Elkins became AUM's first GSC Top Ten honoree when he earned the accolade in 2021.

The "Top Ten" are selected with the assistance of an advisory committee representing the Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Sports Information Directors, Faculty Athletics Representatives, and Presidents from randomly selected GSC schools, which makes a recommendation to the Commissioner, who has the final decision.

The ten winners are now up for consideration for the GSC Commissioner's Trophy, which will be awarded to one male and one female, and will be announced Thursday, June 2 in Pensacola, Fla.
