MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Eleven past and present Auburn University at Montgomery men's soccer players have been named to the all-decade team for their on-field performances during the 2010s.
The past decade was very friendly to the players who wore the Orange & Black. AUM amassed 85 wins and 278 total points in 10 seasons. The Warhawks made four conference tournament appearances and made three trips to the NAIA National Tournament. In 2013, AUM made their way to the National Championship game but fell to Martin Methodist 2-1 in the deciding game.
Taian Souza (2010-13) stood out as the best of the best in the decade and has been named Player of The Decade. Souza handled the backline for the Warhawks in his four seasons and anchored his teams to 31 regular-season wins.
Souza earned all-conference honors in 2012 (second team) and 2013 (first team) for his work on the pitch. He also garnered national attention as a first-team all-American in 2013 and won academic honors in 2012 and 2013.
Alexander Wagner is the only current Warhawk to make this list and slots in on defense with Souza. Having been eligible for postseason play and awards for one season, Wagner led the Warhawks to their first Gulf South Conference playoff appearance and captured first-team all-GSC honors. The Germany native was also a finalist for the GSC Commissioner's Trophy in 2020.
Matias Aristegui (2011-12) played just two seasons for AUM but made a lasting impact on the program. In his senior season in 2012, he led the Warhawks to an 18-4-2 record and contributed to 11 shutouts, which ranked third in the nation. Aristegui was chosen as a first-team all-SSAC honor in 2012 for his stellar play on defense.
Niklas Hunold, (2012-15) teammates of Souza and Aristegui, is the fourth defenseman to be named to the all-decade team. Hunold played in 85 games for the Orange & Black, finding the net five times in his career. Hunold made an appearance on the all-SSAC team in every year except his junior season.
One of the best goalies in AUM history, Vignir Johannesson (2011-13) benefited from playing in front of three members of the all-decade team but is well-deserving in his own right. Johannesson finished his career with a 38-14-8 record with a .737 SV% and a 1.36 GAA.
He ranked fifth all-time in saves (244), second all-time in minutes played by a goalie (5,609) and second in shutouts (15). He was named an academic all-American twice and was a two-time first-team all-SSAC selection.
Vitor Silva (2010-13) is listed as the first midfielder on the all-decade team. He appeared in 79 games over his career and registered 11 goals and 32 points. Silva's teams went on to win 46 games over four years, including two national tournament selections.
Sebastian Wladyko (2012-15) was an offensive force in the midfield for the Warhawks. After scoring 16 goals in his first three years, he exploded for 11 scores in his senior season. Wladyko finished with 27 goals, 32 assists and 86 points for the Orange & Black. His 32 assists rank ninth all-time in program history and was a three-time attendee on the all-SSAC first team.
Christian Holthaus (2010-13) found the back of the net seven times in his career playing in the midfield for the Warhawks and assisted on 15 scores in four seasons. Holthaus had a 2013 campaign to remember, earning second-team all-SSAC honors as well as an academic all-American selection.
Alan Harwell (2013-16) was one of the most prolific scorers in AUM history. His 37 goals over a four-year career ranks tied for ninth all-time in program history. Harwell was also able to land on the all-SSAC second team twice, and the first team once.
Yannic Fallack (2013-15) was on the same team as Harwell, and the two forwards put together outstanding careers. Fallack played three seasons for the Orange & Black and posted 27 goals, 13 assists and 67 points. He earned first-team all-SSAC honors in 2014 as well as a second-team all-American selection for his efforts in 2014.
The last name on the all-decade list is Elvar Sigurdsson (2011-13). Sigurdsson slots into the team after completing three seasons as a Warhawk, registering 27 goals, 22 assists and 76 points.
He ranks fourth all-time in shots with 249 and holds two of the top-10 shots taken in a single season. Sigurdsson was a third-team all-American in 2013 and earned all-SSAC honors twice in his career.
