MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball program has named 12 current and former players to the all-decade team for their performances during the 2010s.
AUM softball has been the standard for college softball since its first season in 2009. The Warhawks won 31 games in their first season and are still yet to produce a losing season.
In the 2010s, the Warhawks won 416 games, including six seasons of at least 40 wins and one season of 53 victories. AUM made a national tournament appearance in five seasons, reaching the world series in three. AUM was also able to take home back-to-back world series championships in 2014 and 2015.
The Warhawks earned a spot on the NAIA all-American team seven consecutive times. The team captured one NAIA Player of The Year, and two different coaches won the NAIA Coach of The Year.
Cassie Daniels (2012-15) was one of the most dominating players in AUM Athletics history and has earned softball's Player of The Decade. Daniels was a member of both national championship teams and won NAIA Player of The Year in 2015. Daniels received countless awards in her four-year career, including a three-time NAIA all-American.
She was one of the most dominant pitchers in NAIA history. Over a four-year career, Daniels acquired a 91-24 record with a 1.25 ERA, 1077 strikeouts in 757.1 innings pitched, threw 79 complete games and at the plate, drove in a run in two at-bats.
Taylor Powell (2013-16) joins Daniels in the starting rotation for the all-decade team. Powell got it done on both sides of the ball for the Warhawks. In the circle, Powell garnered an 80-10 record, a 1.34 ERA with 619 strikeouts in 580.1 innings of work. At the plate, she socked 11 home runs for 51 RBI and was a career .264 hitter.
As far as two-way players are concerned, Brandi Richards (2009-12) is as good as they come. She could have earned a spot in the outfield but slots in as the final pitcher on the all-decade team.
A two-time SSAC Pitcher of The Year, Richards compiled a 57-29 career record with a 1.13 ERA. As a pitcher, she was able to retire 880 players on strikes in 592.1 innings pitched. Richards' 1.13 career ERA ranks first all-time in program history.
At the dish, she excelled almost as much as she did in the circle. A .378 career hitter, she smoked 21 home runs in her four seasons as a Warhawk, including 122 RBIs and 79 extra-base hits.
Lauren Shaw (2013-15) had the pleasure of catching all three of the pitchers on the all-decade team and slots in as the starting catcher. A two-time national champion, Shaw posted a .309 career average with 24 home runs and 103 RBIs. Defensively, Shaw committed seven errors in 139 games played, gunning down 13 runners on 49 tries.
Jade Sasser (2014-15) made a lasting impact in her short time at AUM. Aiding the Orange & Black to two national championships, she slots in as a corner infielder. With two seasons under her belt, Sasser hit .336 with 12 home runs and 82 RBIs.
Katie Spain (2012-15) is one of the greatest hitters in the history of the program. She holds a record in nearly every offensive category after an incredible four years as a Warhawk. The two-time national champion found her way on the NAIA all-American list twice in her career.
Spain was able to slot in at third base for the final three years of her career and, in total, played 213 career games for AUM. She hit .357 for her career with 39 home runs and 148 RBIs—both her home run and RBI total rank second all-time.
The first appearance from a current Warhawk comes courtesy of
Olivia Aycock, who slots in at middle infield. The dynamic shortstop is the single-season stolen base record holder and currently owns the all-time batting average record with a .388 average. In 232 at-bats in her career, Aycock has struck out a grand total of six times.
Joining Aycock up the middle is Jyssica Pepper (2011-13), who spent three seasons with the Orange & Black. Pepper was a career .346 hitter and managed to muscle 14 home runs with 87 RBIs. Pepper's 13 careers triples are tops in program history.
Kalee Sparks (2017-18) begins the who's who of AUM outfielders. Sparks, a two-year Warhawk, played 87 games in her career wearing the Orange & Black. She knocked in 53 runs in her career with three home runs while hitting .376 in two seasons.
Current Warhawk
Parker Pinholster earns a spot in the outfield on the all-decade team. The Georgia native is a career .283 hitter while socking 10 home runs and driving in 74. Pinholster has made a name for herself on the basepaths as her 105 career steals is first in program history.
Jaycie Walker earns the third spot in the outfield and the third current softball player to make an appearance on the team. Walker has been nothing short of one of the best offensive players of all-time during her four-year career.
Walker's 27 home runs is third all-time in program history, and her 48 doubles rank first as well. In total, she has a .356 career average with 27 big flies and 110 RBIs.
Kayla Hale (2013-16) concludes the all-decade lineup as the designated player for AUM. A member of the both of the Warhawks' national championship teams, she is the all-time leader in games played (218), walks (93), home runs (40) and RBIs (178).
