A four-year all-conference performer and three-time NAIA All-American with the men's soccer program from 2003-06, Hjartarson was named the NAIA's National Player of the Year as a junior and senior, capping a highly decorated career with the Senators. During his four seasons, he scored 136 goals, 308 points, and attempted 413 shots, all of which were career records at the NAIA level at the time of his induction. His career goal total was second most among all collegiate levels. During his junior campaign, he scored 106 points and 48 goals, marks which ranked second and third all-time in the NAIA. He followed with 33 goals as a senior, as he earned consecutive First-Team All-America honors, NAIA Region 13 Player of the Year honors and conference player of the year accolades to close his career. At the time of his induction, Hjartarson held the AUM season and career records for goals, points and shots, as well as the match records for goals, goals in a half and points. Hjartarson graduated from AUM with a degree in political science in 2007.
